Pandan Daiquiri Recipe: The Tropical Flavor Showing Up on Cocktail Menus

Pandan is turning up in modern cocktails for a reason. Add it to a classic Daiquiri and white rum, fresh lime and pandan syrup become a bright three-ingredient drink with soft vanilla-like, nutty and tropical aromas.

The easiest way to try pandan in a cocktail

Pandan can sound like the kind of ingredient that needs a complicated bar recipe. It does not. In a Daiquiri, the idea is almost ridiculously simple: keep the rum and fresh lime, then replace the usual simple syrup with pandan syrup.

That one swap gives the drink a softer, more aromatic edge while keeping the clean sweet-sour shape that makes a Daiquiri so good. If you already know our classic Daiquiri ratio, this version will feel instantly familiar.

The result is bright, cold and citrusy first, with pandan arriving just behind the lime. It feels unusual without becoming difficult. Three ingredients. One shaker. Done.

Why pandan is showing up on cocktail menus

Pandan has moved well beyond desserts and sweet drinks into modern cocktails because its aroma is distinctive without being difficult to pair. In syrup form, it adds sweetness together with soft vanilla-like, nutty, grassy and gently coconut-like notes in one easy pour.

Those flavors work especially well with bright citrus and clean spirits, which is exactly why a Daiquiri makes such a good place to start. You get something that feels current and a little unexpected without needing complicated bar technique or a long ingredient list.

Easy Pandan Daiquiri recipe

Recipe details

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Prep time: 3 minutes
  • Tools: Cocktail shaker, jigger or measuring cup, fine strainer
  • Taste: Bright, citrusy, lightly sweet, aromatic and tropical
  • Serves: 1 cocktail
  • Best served: Up in a chilled coupe or small cocktail glass

Ingredients

  • 60 ml (2 oz) white rum
  • 22.5 ml (3/4 oz) fresh lime juice
  • 15 ml (1/2 oz) pandan syrup
  • Plenty of ice for shaking
  • Thin lime wheel or lime peel, optional
  • Small piece of fresh pandan leaf for garnish, optional

How to make it

  1. Chill a coupe or small cocktail glass while you make the drink.
  2. Add the white rum, fresh lime juice and pandan syrup to a cocktail shaker.
  3. Fill the shaker generously with ice.
  4. Shake firmly for 10 to 12 seconds, until the outside feels very cold.
  5. Fine-strain into the chilled glass.
  6. Garnish with a thin lime wheel, lime peel or a small piece of pandan leaf if you have one. Serve immediately.

Quick tip

Pandan syrups vary a lot in sweetness and intensity. For a first drink, 15 ml (1/2 oz) is a useful starting point. If your syrup is extremely sweet or strongly perfumed, start with 10 ml (1/3 oz) instead and adjust from there.

What does pandan taste like with rum and lime?

Pandan is difficult to describe with one familiar flavor. Its aroma can feel softly vanilla-like, a little nutty, gently grassy and almost coconut-like, with a warm toasted note underneath.

Fresh lime stops those softer aromas from feeling heavy. White rum keeps the drink clean and lets both the citrus and pandan stay clear. The finished Daiquiri is still crisp rather than creamy or dessert-like.

And no, your drink does not need to be neon green. Some pandan syrups are vividly colored, while others make a much softer green drink. The aroma and balance matter more than the shade.

Why pandan works so well in a Daiquiri

A Daiquiri is basically a balance between spirit, acidity and sweetness. Pandan syrup already supplies the sweet part, so it can slide into the recipe without adding another ingredient.

The lime gives pandan contrast. The rum gives it space. That is why this combination feels more polished than the ingredient list suggests: every part has a clear job.

A clean white rum is the easiest starting point. A lightly aged rum can work too, but its extra vanilla, caramel or oak notes can make the drink feel rounder and richer. For your first Pandan Daiquiri, keep the rum simple and let the pandan be the twist.

How to adjust your Pandan Daiquiri

Because pandan syrups are not all equally sweet or concentrated, the best version may need one tiny adjustment. Change one thing at a time.

  • Too sweet: Add 5 ml fresh lime juice, shake briefly again and taste.
  • Too tart: Add 5 ml pandan syrup.
  • Pandan disappears: Add a very small extra measure of pandan syrup next time rather than making the whole drink sweeter at once.
  • Too perfumed: Reduce the pandan syrup to 10 ml (1/3 oz) and keep the rum and lime the same.

This is a three-ingredient cocktail, so a 5 ml change is noticeable. Small corrections work better than dramatic ones.

Pandan Daiquiri vs Pandan Margarita

Both drinks pair pandan with fresh lime, but they take it in different directions. The Daiquiri is cleaner and simpler: rum, lime and pandan syrup. It keeps the focus on the sweet-sour balance and the aromatic pandan finish.

Our Pandan Margarita uses tequila and orange liqueur, so it has a brighter agave edge and a little more going on around the pandan.

Choose the Daiquiri when you want the easiest three-ingredient version. Choose the Margarita when you want tequila, orange and a slightly bolder cocktail.

Pandan Daiquiri FAQ

Can I use pandan extract instead of pandan syrup?

You can, but it is not a direct one-for-one swap. Pandan extract can be much more concentrated and it does not necessarily add enough sweetness. Use it very cautiously according to the product directions, then add simple syrup separately until the drink is balanced. Pandan syrup is much easier for this recipe.

What rum is best for a Pandan Daiquiri?

Start with a clean white rum. It keeps the cocktail crisp and gives the lime and pandan enough room to show. A lightly aged rum can work if you want a rounder, slightly richer version.

Why is my Pandan Daiquiri not bright green?

Different pandan syrups use different amounts of coloring and different pandan preparations. A pale green or almost clear Daiquiri can still taste exactly right. Do not add extra syrup just to chase a brighter color.

Final sip

The Pandan Daiquiri is the kind of cocktail that looks like a new idea but behaves like an old favorite. Rum, lime and pandan syrup are enough to make something bright, aromatic and a little unexpected.

Start with the three-ingredient ratio, keep the glass cold and adjust the pandan in small steps. If you still have rum open afterwards, our easy rum mixer guide gives you plenty of simple next pours.
