7 Easy Pomegranate Cocktails and Mocktails

Which Pomegranate Drink Should You Make?
One bottle, plenty of possibilities. Choose your glass by flavour, time and what you have in the kitchen. Each recipe serves one; the prep times assume your ingredients are ready and chilled.
Quick comparison — drink | flavour | prep time | equipment
- 1. Vodka Lime Fizz | Crisp and bubbly | 3 min | Tall glass + spoon
- 2. Gin & Orange Tonic | Herbal and bittersweet | 3 min | Tall glass + spoon
- 3. Tequila Grapefruit Cooler | Zesty and gently bitter | 4 min | Tall glass + spoon
- 4. Bourbon Sour | Rich and tart | 4 min | Shaker + rocks glass
- 5. Cucumber Lime Cooler (0%) | Clean and refreshing | 4 min | Tall glass + spoon
- 6. Mint Lemonade (0%) | Bright and citrusy | 4 min | Tall glass + spoon
- 7. Black Tea & Orange Cooler (0%) | Gently dry and still | 3 min after tea is cooled | Tall glass + spoon
Use chilled 100% pomegranate juice, not grenadine syrup. It can be pleasantly sharp, so start with the smaller citrus amount where a range is given. Stir, taste and adjust sweetness in 5 ml (0.17 oz) steps. You do not need seven bottles of mixers or a fully stocked bar to make something lovely.

4 Easy Pomegranate Cocktails
These four pomegranate cocktails move from light and fizzy to a properly chilled bourbon sour. The first three are built straight in the glass; only the sour needs a shaker.
1. Pomegranate Vodka Lime Fizz
Friends nearly at the door? This is the back-pocket drink. It's bright, cold and made right in the glass, yet it looks like you planned ahead.
Prep: 3 minutes | Glass: Highball | Taste: Tart, crisp, lightly fizzy
Ingredients
- 45 ml (1.5 oz) vodka
- 75 ml (2.5 oz) chilled pomegranate juice
- 5 ml (0.17 oz) fresh lime juice, plus another 5 ml (0.17 oz) if needed
- 90 ml (3 oz) chilled soda water
- 5 ml (0.17 oz) simple syrup, optional
- Ice and a lime wheel, to serve
How to make it
- Fill a highball glass with ice and add the vodka, pomegranate juice and the first 5 ml (0.17 oz) of lime juice.
- Stir and taste. Add the remaining lime if it needs more zip, or the optional syrup if the juice is too sharp.
- Top with cold soda water, give it one gentle stir and finish with a lime wheel.
Make it yours: Start with less lime. Pomegranate brings its own tartness, and you can always add a little more after the first taste.
2. Pomegranate Gin & Orange Tonic
Think of your usual gin and tonic, then give it a ruby-red twist. Orange brings a little softness; the tonic keeps the finish pleasantly bittersweet.
Prep: 3 minutes | Glass: Highball or balloon glass | Taste: Citrusy, herbal, bittersweet
Ingredients
- 45 ml (1.5 oz) London dry gin
- 60 ml (2 oz) chilled pomegranate juice
- 30 ml (1 oz) fresh orange juice
- 90 ml (3 oz) chilled tonic water
- Ice and a strip of orange peel, to serve
How to make it
- Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour in the gin, pomegranate juice and orange juice.
- Top slowly with tonic water and stir once or twice.
- Squeeze the orange peel gently over the glass, then drop it in.
Quick tip: Tonic brings both bitterness and sweetness, so skip the syrup at first. If you prefer a drier drink, try half tonic and half soda water next time.
3. Pomegranate Tequila Grapefruit Cooler
Love grapefruit? This one brings together tequila, sharp pomegranate and a little fizz. It's bright and punchy, with a fruitier finish than a classic Paloma.
Prep: 4 minutes | Glass: Tall highball | Taste: Bright, tart, bittersweet
Ingredients
- 45 ml (1.5 oz) tequila blanco
- 45 ml (1.5 oz) chilled pomegranate juice
- 60 ml (2 oz) fresh pink grapefruit juice
- 5 ml (0.17 oz) fresh lime juice, optional
- 60 ml (2 oz) chilled soda water
- 5 ml (0.17 oz) agave syrup, optional
- A tiny pinch of salt, ice and a grapefruit wedge
How to make it
- Pour the tequila, pomegranate juice and grapefruit juice into an ice-filled highball glass. Add lime only if you want extra sharpness.
- Add the tiny pinch of salt, stir and taste. If the juices are very tart, add the optional agave syrup.
- Top with cold soda water, stir gently and garnish with grapefruit.
Quick tip: That tiny pinch of salt rounds out the grapefruit without making the drink salty. If you'd like to try the original grapefruit-and-tequila combination, see our easy Paloma recipe.
4. Pomegranate Bourbon Sour
This is your slow-evening pour. No bubbles, just bourbon, tart pomegranate and enough sweetness to bring them together. Simple ingredients, a completely different mood.
Prep: 4 minutes | Glass: Rocks glass | Taste: Rich, tart, lightly sweet
Ingredients
- 50 ml (1.7 oz) bourbon
- 45 ml (1.5 oz) pomegranate juice
- 5 ml (0.17 oz) fresh lemon juice, plus another 5 ml (0.17 oz) if needed
- 10 ml (0.35 oz) simple syrup, plus 5 ml (0.17 oz) if needed
- Ice and an orange twist, to serve
How to make it
- Add the bourbon, pomegranate juice, the first 5 ml (0.17 oz) of lemon juice and 10 ml (0.35 oz) syrup to a shaker with ice.
- Shake firmly until cold, about 10-15 seconds. Taste a small spoonful: if too tart, add the extra 5 ml (0.17 oz) syrup and shake briefly again; if it needs more citrus bite, add the extra lemon instead.
- Strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass and finish with an orange twist.
Balance tip: Pomegranate juice is already tart, so begin with just 5 ml (0.17 oz) lemon. A little extra syrup softens a sharp juice; more lemon makes the finish brighter. Taste before adding either so the bourbon still comes through.
3 Easy Pomegranate Mocktails
No alcohol, no afterthoughts. These three pomegranate mocktails have their own flavours and textures, so anyone skipping spirits still gets a drink worth choosing.
5. Pomegranate Cucumber Lime Cooler
The unexpected favourite of the bunch. Cucumber makes tart pomegranate feel wonderfully fresh, so this is a lovely welcome drink when you want something light rather than syrupy.
Prep: 4 minutes | Glass: Highball | Taste: Fresh, gently tart, crisp
Ingredients
- 90 ml (3 oz) chilled pomegranate juice
- 3-4 thin cucumber slices
- 5 ml (0.17 oz) fresh lime juice, plus more to taste
- 90 ml (3 oz) chilled sparkling water
- 5 ml (0.17 oz) simple syrup, optional
- Ice and a cucumber ribbon, to serve
How to make it
- Put the cucumber slices and lime juice into a highball glass. Press the cucumber lightly with a spoon to release its fresh flavour.
- Add the pomegranate juice and plenty of ice. Stir in syrup only if needed.
- Top with sparkling water, stir gently and add a cucumber ribbon.
Quick tip: Don't crush the cucumber into a pulp. A gentle press gives you a clean flavour without turning the drink cloudy and watery.
6. Pomegranate Mint Lemonade
A little garden-party energy, even if you're drinking it at the kitchen table. Fresh mint and lemon turn pomegranate juice into a bright lemonade that feels like a treat.
Prep: 4 minutes | Glass: Highball | Taste: Citrusy, fruity, refreshing
Ingredients
- 60 ml (2 oz) chilled pomegranate juice
- 15 ml (0.5 oz) fresh lemon juice, plus 5 ml (0.17 oz) if needed
- 10 ml (0.35 oz) simple syrup, plus 5 ml (0.17 oz) if needed
- 120 ml (4 oz) chilled sparkling water
- 5-6 fresh mint leaves
- Ice and a lemon wheel, to serve
How to make it
- Gently rub or clap the mint leaves to release their aroma, then place them in a tall glass.
- Add the pomegranate juice, the first 15 ml (0.5 oz) lemon juice and 10 ml (0.35 oz) syrup. Stir and taste.
- Add up to 5 ml (0.17 oz) extra lemon for more brightness or 5 ml (0.17 oz) extra syrup if it's too sharp. Fill with ice, top with sparkling water and stir once. Add a lemon wheel.
Quick tip: This recipe is designed for unsweetened pomegranate juice. If yours is a sweetened juice drink, skip the syrup at first and adjust after tasting.
7. Pomegranate Black Tea & Orange Cooler
This is the one for someone who says most mocktails are too sweet. Cold black tea brings a gentle tannic edge, orange softens the pomegranate and the drink stays pleasantly still rather than fizzy.
Prep: 3 minutes with tea prepared ahead | Glass: Highball | Taste: Fruity, tea-led, gently dry
Ingredients
- 90 ml (3 oz) chilled pomegranate juice
- 90 ml (3 oz) brewed black tea, completely cooled
- 30 ml (1 oz) fresh orange juice
- 5 ml (0.17 oz) fresh lemon juice, optional
- 5 ml (0.17 oz) honey syrup or simple syrup, optional
- Ice and a thin orange slice, to serve
How to make it
- Brew black tea according to the packet directions and let it cool fully. You can prepare it earlier and refrigerate it.
- Fill a glass with ice. Add the cold tea, pomegranate juice and orange juice.
- Stir and taste. Add the optional lemon for extra brightness or a little syrup if it feels too sharp.
- Finish with an orange slice and serve cold.
Quick tip: Use decaffeinated black tea if you prefer to avoid caffeine. The tea should be cool before mixing, otherwise it will melt the ice and dilute the drink too quickly.
How to Make Pomegranate Drinks Taste Better
One bottle of juice can taste very different from another, so small adjustments matter more than complicated tools.
- Choose juice, not syrup. 100% pomegranate juice gives the recipes their tart fruit flavour. Grenadine is a sweet pomegranate syrup, not a one-for-one substitute. If you want to make your own, try our homemade grenadine recipe.
- Build the balance gradually. For drinks with optional or extra citrus, start with the smaller amount, stir and taste before adding more. In the bourbon sour, 5 ml (0.17 oz) lemon is the starting point because the pomegranate already brings acidity.
- Sweeten in small steps. Add 5 ml (0.17 oz) syrup at a time when a drink tastes too sharp, except where the recipe gives a specific starting amount. A sweetened juice drink or tonic may need less syrup or none.
- Keep fizzy mixers cold. Add soda, tonic or sparkling water last and stir just once or twice. The bubbles should do their work in the glass, not disappear in the jug.
- For guests, prepare the still ingredients first. Measure and refrigerate the fruit-and-spirit bases ahead, then add ice and bubbles when you serve. Keep the 0% mocktails in clearly separate, labelled serving containers.
If you want a more aromatic alcohol-free option, the Pomegranate Rosemary Mocktail gives the same deep colour a fresh herbal finish. It's a lovely alternative when you want a single festive glass rather than a whole menu.
Pomegranate Drinks FAQ
Can I use bottled pomegranate juice?
Absolutely. In fact, bottled 100% pomegranate juice makes these recipes much easier. Check whether it is unsweetened juice or a sweetened pomegranate drink, then adjust the optional syrup and citrus to taste.
Can I make pomegranate cocktails and mocktails ahead of time?
You can measure the non-fizzy ingredients and keep them covered in the fridge for a few hours on the day you're serving. Keep sparkling water, tonic and ice separate until the last moment. For the bourbon sour, shake with fresh ice just before serving; for the black-tea cooler, prepare and chill the tea in advance.
Are the three pomegranate mocktails alcohol-free?
Yes, as written: they use juice, fruit, sparkling water or tea, with no spirits or liqueurs. Check packaged ingredients if you need to avoid alcohol completely, and remember that regular black tea contains caffeine.
Find Your Favourite Ruby-Red Pour
One bottle, seven different moods. Start with the crisp vodka fizz, save the bourbon sour for a slower evening, or pour the cucumber mocktail for someone skipping alcohol. Pomegranate juice brings the colour. You bring the good company.
